The OCCF Community
Our community is our biggest strength. We have members that have been with us since we opened our doors over 4 years ago and have welcomed hundreds of new CrossFitters along the way. OCCF is a gym (or “box” as we CrossFitters like to call our space) stocked with the equipment and coaching staff needed to help you become physically stronger, but the bond formed between our members is what makes us different. When you join OCCF, you’re not just joining a gym, you are also becoming a part of a community of people that want to see you succeed—both in and out of the box. Having the support of your coaches and fellow Oak City CrossFitters is integral to your success and will keep you coming back for more.
Comprehensive Foundations Program
Oak City CrossFit offers our new members a unique program that will give you the foundation you need to comfortably transition to our small group classes.
In our experience of coaching CrossFit athletes over the last 4+ years, we have found that investing our time in your CrossFit journey at this stage will set you up for success. Our Foundations Program differs from other gyms in that it consists of 6 sessions that will properly prepare you for the small group classes. Another unique feature is that we limit our Foundations class size to 3 athletes per coach in order to ensure that you are getting the proper instruction. We also hold our Foundations classes concurrently with our other classes so that even though you are in a small class setting, you can still see what’s going on and get to know our members.
It can be overwhelming when you first step into a CrossFit box and at OCCF we want you to feel comfortable from the beginning. We have found that 6 sessions conducted over a 3 week period is the right amount of time for a new athlete to learn and demonstrate a basic understanding of the foundational movements of CrossFit. During this time we are also learning about you, too. You will work with all of our coaches during the Foundations course so that we get to know you, how you move, as well as your strengths and weaknesses.
CrossFit Small Group Class
After over 4 years in the business and coaching hundreds of people, we have learned a few things about fitness. Even a world class program like CrossFit will not be effective without professional coaching and the proper attention to form and movement. Our small group class setting allows our experienced coaches to provide an environment that leads to the success of our members. Our CrossFit classes are capped at 12 members per class, which provides one of the best coach-to-member ratio in the area. During peak times, we have additional coaches on the floor to assist with instruction. This small group setting also encourages members to get to know one another—something you will not find in a large gym.
We offer classes 7 days a week in order to give our members plenty of opportunities to meet their fitness goals.
In addition to our group classes, we offer specialty programs for members who are looking to work on their weaknesses, or for members who just want to mix it up a bit. Examples of specialty programs include:
• Olympic Weightlifting Clinics, taught by our certified weightlifting coaches, will help you improve your technique and hit new PRs (personal records)
• Mobility Clinics to help you learn how to move better
• Nutrition Challenges and Coaching to help you learn how to eat to support your fitness and lifestyle goals
• Open Gym sessions throughout the week to allow time to work on skills that may need some help
• Goal Setting Courses to help you learn how to set and achieve goals and keep you accountable
• Running Clinics taught by our CrossFit Endurance certified staff to help you run better and prepare for your endurance events
There are many elements that go into making a world-class facility. From the training components like having enough space and equipment to practical components like free parking. Our facility has all the necessary components to help you get fit and stay fit for life.
We use your body and real weights to create free, natural movement. We only have machines that mimic functional movement, and none of those that don’t contribute to overall health and a lean, conditioned body. We welcome you to take a look around our box and our equipment – you won’t see full length mirrors but you’ll see results in your own mirror and in the fit of your clothes when you make the move to functional fitness.
We have been around since 2010, we have learned a few things about what people want from a training facility.
The strength of Oak City CrossFit lies in our community. From fitness competitions to birthday parties to philanthropic events, our members are more than just CrossFit junkies. As a box, we have raised thousands of dollars over the past 4 years for our annual fundraising event, Barbells for Boobs. We also regularly participate in local CrossFit competitions—and bring a group of spectators to support our OCCF competitors. We also like to test our fitness outside the box by doing things like our annual July 4th Swim WOD and Greenway WOD on the Raleigh Greenway behind our facility.
We subscribe to the functional fitness model that believes fitness is something that should make your life better. Over the years, we have learned that members who are engaged in the OCCF community are more likely to show up for the WOD—not only because they just want a good workout, but because they also to enjoy themselves socially. We feel it’s important to be well-rounded people who know how to have fun with friends (after crushing a CrossFit WOD, of course!).
